The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, – a spiritual understanding of Him.
God is love. Can we ask Him to be more?
God is intelligence. Can we inform the infinite Mind of anything
He does not already comprehend?
Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem? The rule is already established, and it is our task to work out the solution. Shall we ask the divine Principle of all goodness to do His own work? His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God’s rule in order to receive His blessing
The Divine Being must be reflected by man, –else man is not the image and likeness of the patient, tender and true, the One “altogether lovely. But to understand God is the work of eternity and demands absolute consecration of thought, energy, and desire.
How empty are our conceptions of Deity! We admit theoretically that God is good, omnipotent, omnipresent, infinite, ……………….and then we try to give information to this infinite Mind.
Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.
What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds.
Simply asking that we may love God will never make us love Him, but longing to be better and holier, expressed in daily watchfulness and in striving to assimilate more of the divine character, will mold and fashion us anew until we awake in His likeness.
Whatever materializes worship, obstructs man’s spiritual growth and keeps him from demonstrating his power over error.
Sorrow for wrong-doing is but one step towards reform and the very easiest step.
Divine Love corrects and governs man.
Men may pardon, but this divine Principle alone reforms the sinner.
God is not separate from the wisdom He bestows. The talents He gives we must improve.
Jesus uncovered and rebuked sin before he cast it out. Of a sick woman, he said that Satan had bound her. He came teaching and showing men how to destroy sin, sickness, and death….His rebuke was fearful…Get thee behind me, Satan. Jesus’ reproof was pointed and pungent. He taught and demonstrated man’s oneness with the Father, and for this, we owe him endless homage, he established no ritualistic worship.
Let us put aside material self and sense,
and seek the divine Principle and Science of all healing.
Consistent prayer is the desire to do right.
Prayer to a corporeal God affects the sick like a drug, which has no efficacy of its own but borrows its power from human faith and belief. The drug does nothing because it has no intelligence.
It is a mortal belief, not a divine Principle or Love, which causes a drug to be apparently either poisonous or sanative. The drug does nothing because it has no intelligence.
IF WE ARE NOT SECRETLY YEARNING AND OPENLY STRIVING FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF ALL WE ASK, OUR PRAYERS ARE VAIN REPETITIONS.
Because of human ignorance of the divine Principle, Love, the Father of all is represented as a corporeal creator; hence men recognize themselves as merely physical and are ignorant of man as God’s image or reflection and of man’s eternal incorporeal existence.
To be “with the Lord” is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, -by spirit, not by matter.
Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, -neither in nor of matter, – and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well. Sorrow is turned into joy when the body is controlled by spiritual Life, Truth, and Love.
Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man’s dominion over the whole earth. This understanding casts out error and heals the sick, and with it you can speak “as one having authority”
To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent. That man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error.
Practice not profession, understanding not belief, gain the ear and right hand of omnipotence and they assuredly call down infinite blessings.
Pride and fear are unfit to bear the standard of Truth.
Consciousness of right-doing brings its own reward
Jesus said: “These signs shall follow them that believe; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
When mortals once admit that evil confers no pleasure, they turn from it. Remove error from thought, and it will not appear in effect.
It is sad that the phrase divine service has come so generally to mean public worship instead of daily deeds.
Jesus knew that matter had no life and that real Life is God. He allowed men to attempt the destruction of the mortal body in order that he might furnish the proof of immortal life. Nothing could kill this Life of man. Jesus allowed men to attempt the destruction of the mortal body in order that he might furnish the proof of immortal life.
Mortals believed in God as humanly mighty,
rather than as divine, infinite Love.
In science, man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being.
Whatever is false or sinful can never enter the atmosphere of Spirit. There is but one spirit. Man is never God, but spiritual man, made in God’s likeness, reflects God. The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal
Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense. God, good, being ever present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present.
Mind governs the body, not partially but wholly.
As astronomy reverses the human perception of the movement of the solar system, so Christian Science reverses the seeming relation of Soul and body and makes body tributary to Mind. Thus it is with man, who is but the humble servant of the restful Mind, though it seems otherwise to finite sense. But we shall never understand this while we admit that soul is in body or mind in matter, and that man is included in non-intelligence.
Soul, or Spirit, is God, unchangeable and eternal;
and man coexists with and reflects Soul, God, for man is God’s image.
The optical focus is proof of the illusion of material sense. On the eye’s retina, sky and tree-tops apparently join hands, clouds and ocean meet and mingle. The barometer, -that little prophet of storm and sunshine, denying the testimony of the senses- points to fair weather in the midst of murky clouds and drenching rain. Experience is full of instances of similar illusions, which every thinker can recall for himself.
Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. When the science of being is universally understood, every man will be his own physician, and Truth will be the universal panacea.
Jesus, in his own practice, never spoke of disease as dangerous or as difficult to heal. When his students brought to him a case they had failed to heal, he said to them, “O faithless generation,” “implying that the requisite power to heal was in Mind. He prescribed no drugs, urged no obedience to material laws, but acted in direct disobedience to them.
Neither anatomy nor theology has ever described man as created by Spirit, -as God’s man. Anatomy takes up man at all points materially. It loses Spirit, drops the true tone, and accepts the discord.
Anatomy and theology reject the divine Principle which produces harmonious man, and deal, -the one wholly, the other primarily – with matter, calling that man which is not the counterpart, but the counterfeit, of God’s man.
Is Materia Medica a science or a bundle of speculative human theories? The prescription which succeeds in one instance fails in another, and this is owing to the different mental states of the patient. These states are not comprehended, and they are left without explanation. The rule and its perfection of operation never vary in Science.
